After completing my research my magazine was targeted at a age range of 16- 30 year olds, predominantly of the male gender that were heavily interested in the Hip-Hop genre. I chose this specific genre as a reflection of my interests in music and how with being so interested in the Hip-Hop genre, this would allow me to make the most effective magazine. The age of my audience was fairly easy to meet as I, the majority of people that I know and the majority of artists fit into he 16-30 year old bracket, therefore I have a strong understanding on they content that should be in this magazine and the themes that are brought up in them. Additional research involved finding my target audience through the UK Tribes website. After look through number of the various tribes I found that the tribes that suit the Hip-Hop genre included the Urban Tribe as well as sub genres like the Hypebeasts and Stylers. The Urban genre in particular have a clear interest for Hip-Hop music and therefore was a clear choice for my target audience. 

My artist. Joel Roberts is a young Hip-Hop star that has be brought to fame after releasing a mix-tape online. This theme was brought up to connect with the younger audience of similar age. In terms of style, my artist compares similarly to the Artist Kendrick Lamar. My artist simply rocks a  Ralph Lauren white polo and sweatshirt with a jacket, which is a representation to their simplistic style of fashion. This style of clothing has become more mainstream within society along with many social groups. Therefore the Mise-en-Scene of my magazine supports the Stylers social group from UK Tribes, which love to wear luxury and stylish clothing that is in current trends. The style of clothing that these two rappers are showing are providing an indication to the change in clothing that many Hip-Hop stars are making, which is simplistic and comfortable. the style is becoming far more main-stream in society, where as in the past large amounts of rappers would show off their fame with baggy designer clothes and gold chains. Although this is still shown by rappers, it has become less and less noticeable.  My artist, although young, has a wise maturity about him as shown through my article. This goes with the target audience that like Joel Roberts, is maturing and becoming more aware about himself and life. The transition between teenager and young adult is being shown, just like the age range of the 16-30 year old audience.  

Additionally to Joel Roberts, the other artist in my magazine also has an impact on the target audience of Renegade Magazine. Over time, the genre of Hip-Hop has become far more of a racially neutral genre, with rappers of all skin colours rising to fame with the likes of Eminem, Logic and Mac Miller. Similarly, what started being known as a 'black' genre has become fairly mixed with people of all skin colours, religions and races being fans of the music genre. The second artist in my magazine, J.Miller, is a white rapper that was chosen to feature on my magazine, showing the diversity of both fans and artists in the game.  He is featured on my contents page twice as the main image as well as for album artwork for his own album.

From my magazine, the mise en scene of the artist, genre of music and themes that are brought up are used to represent particular social groups such as Hypebeasts and Urban Artists which have a strong interest in the themes brought up in Hip-Hop music.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The publishing process involves the distribution of media products, including magazines. there are a number of various publishing companies that help publish a number of music magazines like the one I am creating including IPC Media, Time Inc. and Bauer Media Group. Bauer Media Group is a media company based in Hamburg, Germany that manage over 600 different magazines worldwide.  Bauer Media group publish some of the most well known music magazines such as Q Magazine and Kerrang! which have had large amounts of success. With the experience that Bauer have, they would be a company that would be able to help Renegade magazine reach it's full potential. 

Costs for the production of Renegade magazine would be earned through advertisements scattered throughout the magazine internally. Both Q and Keerang! have this similar strategy. In addition,Renegade magazine is a high quality magazine with a premium price of $10.99/ £6.99. With this price,a percentage would be used as a way to pay for distribution and publishing costs. Bauer would use paid circulation business model to distribute Renegade Magazine's seasonal issue. This will insure that the magazine is sold to readers for a specific price that has be stated through subscriptions. Readers can also visit newsstands and other outlets that sell the magazine to buy Renegade through a pay-as-you-go method which allows them to buy when the want to.

My magazine is aimed at a audience of primarily 16-30 year old. My magazine's age range came about taking in some feedback about the type of people that generally listen to hip-hop as well as who the music artists have made is aimed at. The large range in age also reflects the diversity that the genre provides. Although Hip-Hop is seen as a more mature genre there is still a large percentage of listeners that are teenagers, therefore a larger age range is needed. The music that my audience will primarily listen to is Hip-Hop/Rap music and listen to many artist that are considered 'mainstream', including: Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Eminem, Chance, The Rapper, Tyler, The Creator, Kanye West and more. I decided to aim my magazine at a predominantly male audience due to the more masculine themes that are presented in Hip-Hop. As well as Hip-Hop Music, my audience would also have a number of other hobbies/interest such as: Video Games, Movies, TV Shows such as The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones and also social media. To research for my audience I used the website 'UKTribes.com'. on this site I was able to narrow down the specific types/groups of people that would be interested in Renegade Magazine. From the website i found groups such as Hypebeasts, Stylers and Urban Artist. Each of these groups have particular links to my magazine's genre and therefore provided me with specific groups which I could target upon the creation of my magazine.

Feedback Given by Classmates on My Draft Magazine

For the majority of my Draft Magazine I received fairly positive feedback. Many people liked my design, especially my Double Page Spread. The main piece of advice that I was give was to uses more than one artist on on a page at a time. This is an achievable goal as I have a wide variety of shots and a number of different models that I could use. A second piece of advice I was given by a classmate was to ensure that all my text was aligned with the rest of the page and nothing is out of place, this is a easy fix and could be done fairly quickly.

As of recent years the sound of hip-hop has transformed drastically with the reimbursed influence of jazz and lyrical powerhouses. With artists such as Kendrick Lamar and J Cole enforcing this sound and cleverly weaving the sound of funk heavily into Hip-Hop , young Chicago rapper Joel Okaga has followed in their footsteps and took the game by storm with his debut album ‘Lone that has received the praise from many critics as well as Hip-Hop Great  Dr. Dre.  RENGADE were able to gains some insight into the artist’s life with an interview.

What’s up man? Glad to have you here.

Yeah, great to be on man, this is kinda surreal you know! I mean, I remember just a couple years ago I was you know watching other guys in the game, huge guys getting interview by like Ebro and Big Boy and now I’ve made it to where it’s me in the shoe of some of my idols.

That’s awesome. So what’s this sudden rush to fame been like? I mean you’re 21 years old and released this album that people like Dre have complimented.

I’m still trying to process it honestly. I just want to create music for myself really, I love music and I decide to share it  and I guess it just picked up to the point that I'm at now.

And how did Dr Dre pick up on it?

*laughs* I have no clue but when I heard what he said I was wilding out for like two days straight, true story, cuz you know that one of my damn Idols as a kid the stories about his production just motivated me to make music and actually be picky about what is in and out.

Yeah man, I mean you created this album In like what, a month? That’s insane.

Na, I think that’s just a rumour, all the tracks and the beats, instruments and all that, I've produced progressively since I was about 16-17 years old and I wanted to make something that was just awesome  music.. I woke up got ready, went to high school got back and started working on a track. That was my routine for like 2-3 years.

So that was just a hobby or intended to release it?

Oh yeah a hobby definitively but then I got to the point I had like over 200 songs recorded and I decided to just pick out some, edit them a little and just went for it you know.  But it was always a hobby to start.

200 track!? that's a lot and you only have 16 on the Album. would you use the others on future albums?

Well, it would depend on the fit really, if it fits with he story I wanna tell, then I would use it. I honestly do want to like slap a bunch of shit in a playlist and sell it, because it would be a waste of material.

What’s your opinion of the rap game at the moment and the state its in?

Honestly, Its getting back to the good days, the game is starting to have meaning again which was one thing I thought kinda sucked about it before. It was dope must but like most cats were saying the same shit over and over and over to the point that you just get tired of it. But the last what? 10 years has honestly been a reinvention, we have these awesome artists that are super talent had force this feeling into you when you listen; there is some true meaning to it, and I love that the most. The fact you help some kid out and help them out through some hard times is what I love about the music.

Who’s your favourite in the game at the moment?

Oh without a doubt, Kendrick. He is a pure genius. The fact he has an album like his last that you would have to construct like a book just shows his talent. Like some To Kill a Mockingbird shit *laughs* but most of all I like his approach. He isn't your typical out there guy, he's very personal, to himself and with his music he has these kids listening to him and he takes the opportunity education them with his music.

So what is next for you? Got anything else planned for the year?

I’m just gonna keep working man, I love what I do and I just want to continue with making music really. But besides that I got invited to perform at a couple of places so that should be fun. But honestly, I wanna just soak this experience in really.
